Firstly, let me thank you for visiting JMcK Soccer Coaching, I’m glad you’re here!  JMcK is committed to giving delivering quality coaching to our players.

At JMcK Soccer Coaching, I use my personally developed coaching philosophy, alongside the F.A. Four Corners Model:

  • TECHNICAL: Ball Mastery, Practice & Group Play
  • PHYSICAL: Co-ordination Conditioning & Challenges
  • PSYCHOLOGICAL: Understanding, Decision Making & Confidence
  • SOCIAL: Communication, Self-esteem & Teamwork

The Football Association has identified through research with groups of children across the country the top 6 reasons why children like to play Football.

  1.  I like playing with my friends
  2.  It’s a superb game, and I Love it
  3.  I love playing football because it’s Fun
  4.  It helps me keep Fit & Healthy
  5.  I like meeting new Friends
  6.  Trying my hardest is more important to me than Winning

Here at JMcK Soccer Coaching, I aim to develop not just the player, but the person as well. I want to build self-esteem, help build confidence, improve technical skills and gameplay.

John McKellar here, I just thought I would take a few moments to tell you a bit about my football coaching background.

I have been coaching in the Thanet area for over 25 years and have probably coached at almost every school in Thanet in that time. I’ve also worked at many leisure centres and football venues within Kent and further afield, delivering quality coaching to many players.

During school holidays, I run all day Soccer Camps which always prove to be very popular with the children that attend. My Saturday Morning Soccer Club also continues to be a big hit with all of the players, why not come and join the fun, you are more than welcome!

Many of you will probably know that I also work for the Charlton Athletic Community Trust. I’ve been with the Charlton for over 20 years, something which I consider to be a great honour.

My time with the club has been a fantastic journey of football pleasure and learning. I have also had the privilege of working with Charlton & Liverpool legend Bob Bolder. Bob has been a significant influence on my coaching career and has helped me understand the real ethos of football.

One of my proudest achievements was working for Sport England. I worked with them for three years on the Active Communities Initiative; the initiative was created to get more people active, from children to pensioners.

Some of the programmes I was involved in were Netball Initiative, Seated Keep Fit for the over 65’s, Walk n Talk (in partnership with the Primary Care Trust), Riding for the Disabled plus many other community projects.

I also sat on the Management Committee of the Northdown Community Association ( N.C.A.) for five years as a volunteer and enjoyed every minute of it.

Football has been my life and continues to be so.  I’m a qualified F.A. coach and also a member of the F.A. Licensed Coaches’ Club.

My qualifications are the F.A. Certificate of Coaching/UEFA B Part 1  F.A. Youth Module.

Through the Football Association, I have obtained my child protection certification (CRC) and have also passed the F.A. Emergency First Aid course, so you can feel more than confident that you’ve made the right choice for your child.

“The first ninety minutes of a football match are the most important.” – BOBBY ROBSON
